The Open Enrollment Period in 2017 is November 1st to December 15th, 2017. Anyone can sign up for a health insurance plan during this time.
If you previously signed up for coverage, you must re-enroll during Open Enrollment, even if you want to keep the same plan. If you need to make changes to your plan, like adding or removing dependents, Open Enrollment is the time to do it.
Important: The tax penalty still exists today. Even though there may be health care reform taking place, the mandate that everyone in the U.S. must have a health insurance plan that meets ACA requirements or face paying a tax penalty is still in place.
You do not need to wait until Open Enrollment to purchase a short-term, limited indemnity, or critical illness plan. However, because these types of plans do not meet ACA requirements, you may have to pay the tax penalty for not having a traditional health insurance plan.
If you are not sure about your Open Enrollment eligibility, please submit your zip code to begin checking your options. You can also call (877) 935-9291 to speak with an agent.
